New: Pizza at Bert’s, Trefor
Bert’s in Trefor now serve homemade pizzas at their Kitchen Garden.
The pizzas are currently served every Wednesday and Sunday until September as a change from their regular restaurant menu.I spoke to Ali, the owner of Bert’s about their inspiration for bringing homemade pizzas to the Kitchen Garden.
“Pizza is the ultimate comfort food. It’s a perfect campsite dinner and we really wanted to add some other options to our offerings at Bert’s.”
“I worked in the pizza industry for a long time and have made many a pizza, so it seemed like the obvious next step.”
“As with everything we do, we look for good, simple amazing produce. With a pizza it’s just as important. We also wanted a pizza menu that would reflect the Kitchen Garden so we use Rosemary rather than basil, pea shoots and nasturtiums. But of course, you can still get good simple pepperoni pizza!”
As soon as you step into the Kitchen Garden, the atmosphere is exactly as it is described on the website: It’s a place to escape the everyday and to celebrate the natural environment. The Garden is packed full of flourishing plants and herbs, and many inviting seating corners. The bar entrance is spectacularly decorated with a living flower arch created by Ivy Pip and Rose.
The pizzas are names after the staff; a personal touch to show how well thought of the team really are. We had The Jones and The Bert’s with added chilli jam. Make sure you also order the garlic pizza bread: The doughy garlic and rosemary addition was quite simply, a taste sensation.
If you’re travelling from afar, Bert’s offers camping and hut accommodation. It’s located in Trefor, which is the perfect base to explore the Llyn Peninsula.
